Driver faces crash trial

A young Rutherglen man is accused of causing a car crash through deangerous driving.

Anthony Silvestro is charged with driving a car, whilst under the influence of alcohol, on to the opposite side of a carriagewa­y and colliding with two other vehicles.

He is also alleged to have got behind the wheel of a Jaguar X-type and driven it dangerousl­y and in an erratic manner on the opposing side of Letherby Drive in Glasgow before colliding with vehicles driven by a man and a woman.

The 21-year-old is accused of failing to give way at the junction with Carmunnock Road and driving on the wrong side of the road at excessive speed on March 20, 2016.

Silvestro, of Cityford Drive, is said to have had no insurance for the vehicle, failed to stop after a crash or report the incident at a police station.

The accused is also charged with smashing the windscreen of a Ford Focus, shouting, swearing and jumping on the bonnet of the car.

He is further accused of assaulting a police constable by kicking her and struggling violently with her.

Silvestro pleaded not guilty to all the charges at Glasgow Sheriff Court on March 10 and trial was set for August 2
