Church to reopen
Cambuslang In Bloom are to hold a bag packing event to help raise funds for their cause.
They will be at the Sainsburys at the Kingsgate Retail Park in East Kilbride on Saturday, April 8.
They will be joined on the afternoon by members of Universal Connections.
The group aim to improve the appearance of Cambuslang. A Rutherglen church will reopen its doors next month after a major renovation.
The Lighthouse Church Centre in Spittal will be open once again on Friday, April 7.
A special event will be held at 6.30pm with a Jewish Passover demonstration at 7.30pm.
The event precedes Holy week in the lead up to Easter and is open to the public.
The renovation of the Lighthouse Church Centre began on May 30 last year.
The work was made possible by a grant from Viridor- Credits which financed the contractor work.
Additional improvements were made possible by the volunteer work and fundraising of “Friends of the Lighthouse”.
The efforts to save the dilapidated facility as a community asset was supported initially by South Lanarkshire Council who accommodated the sale of the building for that purpose and Clansmen Cladding who provided a roofing upgrade solution at a concessionary price.
The church was also s u p p o r t e d by local politicians, the local community and the Church of God Scotland.
Land Engineering, who were working on the nearby Cathkin Relief Road, even assisted the work.
A spokesman for the church said: “The Lighthouse Church Centre renovation and preservation of a community resource is an excellent example of collaborative community working.”
