Sell-out showcase gig
Some of the most talented young musicians from Rutherglen and Cambuslang laid on a musical feast for the audience at Hamilton Town House in the annual instrumental music service showcase.
Performers from every South Lanarkshire secondary took to the stage in school bands, multi-school ensembles, youth orchestras, choirs and as soloists on March 17.
Among the acts from the Rutherglen and Cambuslang area were Cathkin High School Brass, Stonelaw High School Concert Band and Rutherglen High School Music Ensemble. Trinity High School was represented by singer Caitlin King.
Youngsters from the area also performed with the South Lanarkshire schools percussion ensemble, big band and mixed learning communities vocal ensemble.
Instrumental music coordinator Graeme Barclay said:“For every one of the brilliant pupils who took part this year there are numerous other, equally talented, young people that we could not fit on the bill.
“That being said, I would like to pay tribute to the talent of the 23 acts from all across South Lanarkshire who entertained a sell-out audience at Hamilton Town House and to say thank you to the theatre staff who go the extra mile to ensure the sound, lighting and welcome in the venue are to the highest standard.”
Executive director of South Lanarkshire Council education resources Tony McDaid said:“The instrumental music service team work hard throughout the year to support and encourage the musical development of our talented pupils.
“The annual showcase gives a well deserved opportunity for those young people to take centre stage.
“Over and above their regular studies, our young musicians are regularly called on to perform within their schools and indeed to represent their school communities and South Lanarkshire on a larger stage at events and competitions nationally and even internationally.
“They are great ambassadors for our area.”
