Theatre, animals and pumpkins

- Jonathan Geddes

Castlemilk Park have revealed the details of their programme for the next several months.

The busy line-up will include old favourites like the pumpkin festival and owl visits, along with a few fresh ideas, including a theatre production in the park.

That will see Charlotte Bronte’s classic novel Jane Eyre performed on June 15 by the Chapterhouse Theatre Company.

The group had previously put on a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the park back in 2014 .

Entry is free and ticktes will be available from May.

Other highlights of the upcoming programme include the return of their Owls Day to coincide with the Easter holidays, taking place on April 5, with another appearance by the park’s feathered friends scheduled for October 18.

An Easter bunny hunt will take place on Wednesday, April 12, while a forest fairy festival will be happening on Saturday, May 20, including a magical world of storytelling and arts and crafts.

July 12 will bring the always successful doggie day, with the canines competing in all sorts of categories.

A Casiltoun Trust Family Funday will be held on July 26 from noon until 4pm, with lots of games and activities planned.

The massively popular pumpkin festival will be back in time for Hallowe’en, running from October 22 to October 25 and offering some spooktacular fun.

There will be pumpkin carving, the chance to make pumpkin soup and some storytelling before the illumination takes place and a spooky walk is held.

Last year saw hundreds of pumpkins with all sorts of designs entered in the festival, and organisers will be hoping for a similar amount this year.

A look at the life of William Gilchrist, the forester for the Castlemilk Estate during the 1860s, will be held on Saturday, November 25.

Other events throughout the year include the wonders of wild garlic on April 29, Brilliant Bats on September 6 and Willow Wreath Making on December 9.

The full programme of events can be found at http:// www. castlemilkpark.co.uk and all events are free.
