Sub Ewan gets his dad a point

Strike in added time salvages a draw

-

Manager’s son Ewan MacPherson struck deep into injury time to secure a point for dad Gus and the Spiders, who made it four draws in a row.

Queen’s were far from their best but dug deep and refused to accept defeat.

Bryan Wharton made way for the returning Adam Cummins, meaning young Cameron Foy kept his place in the back five, while suspension ruled out Anton Brady.

After a scrappy start it was Alloa who took the lead. Waters’ free kick struck the post and broke to Flannigan, who fired home.

The home side had two chances to extend their lead. Cawley saw two shots blocked before Spence was also denied when he possibly should have done better.

And that failure to put the game to bed allowed Queen’s to equalise. Some neat play created space for Galt and, although his original shot was blocked by Parry, he made no mistake from the rebound,

Although they had not tested Parry on too many occasions in the opening 45 minutes, Queen’s had looked the better side. But whatever Alloa boss Jim Goodwin said to his charges at the break, they emerged far stronger in the second period.

Kirkpatrick went close within the opening couple of minutes. Cawley was allowed to wander across the edge of the box and pull the trigger but Muir was up to the challenge and beat away his shot.

The goal finally arrived after 54 minutes. Kirkpatrick found himself in space on the right and dinked a cross to the back post, where Taggart had the simplest of jobs to nod the ball home.

The Wasps went for the kill at this stage and were denied two penalty shouts when players hit the deck in the box.

The woodwork also came to Queen’s rescue just after the hour mark, when yet another free kick was whipped in by Waters.

That was the signal for Gus MacPherson to switch things around with a double change. Foy and Docherty went off, with Liam Brown and Willie Mortimer coming on as Queen’s reverted to four at the back.

The change seemed to have an impact and Longworth could have punished his former teammates after being released by Cawley but the final effort was a weak one and did not trouble Muir.

Ewan MacPherson was thrown on for Galt and it proved to be an inspired move.

In the fourth minute of added time Burns was again found on the left but this time the cross was a thing of beauty. It begged the right finish and young sub Ewan was happy to oblige as he buried a header past the helpless Parry, sparking wild celebrations on the park and among the visiting fans.

Queen’s Park: Muir, Millen, McGeever, Cummins, Foy ( Mortimer), McVey, McKernon, Docherty (Brown), Burns, Galt (MacPherson), Zanatta.
