Indyref is needed after Brexit vote
You ask for views about a second independence referendum. I think one is necessary for various reasons.
In our first we were told that to remain in the EU we should vote No and in the EU referendum we voted by a large majority to remain in the EU. Now the reality is that Scotland is being pulled out by a government of Brexiteers whose leading negotiator David Davis has admitted they have no plan.
They intend to take our nation with them regardless of our views of the financial implications.
All attempts by the Scottish Government to offer compromises that would avoid a second independence referendum have been ignored.
The proposals that they offered last December did not even receive a courteous written or verbal reply. So much for being told in 2014 that we were equal partners.
Theresa May says now is not the time for a referendum. The Scottish Government does not ask for one now but suggests autumn 2018 until spring 2019 and they are open to discussions about a later date.
All that remains now in terms of choices for Scotland is to await the disastrous consequences of Brexit or decide a different route as a nation within Europe enjoying the benefits and trade.
Only a referendum will allow our people to decide which it will be.
Finally, there is much talk of the division of a referendum. Two letters to your paper make mention of it. Politics by its very nature is divisive.
When Ruth Davidson, the Scottish Conservative leader, mentions in relation to an independence referendum the word “fratricide” (brother killing brother) or the Daily Telegraph headline screams “Nicola Sturgeon is a traitor, off with her head,” that generates hatred.
