Eight months for thefts from cars

A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to eight months in prison for stealing hundreds of pounds worth of goods from vehicles in Cambuslang.

Ryan Ferguson was arrested by police in the early hours of Sunday, February 26.

Ferguson, who resides on Morven Road, Cambuslang, pled guilty to three counts of theft from vehicles and one attempted theft on various streets including Stewarton Drive, Hunterfiel­d Drive and Langlea Drive.

He is believed to have stolen goods to the value of £391.

The news comes less than a month after the Reformer reported thefts from vehicles in Rutherglen and Cambuslang had risen by nearly 168 per cent in the past five years.

There were 145 break-ins and attempted break-ins to vehicles in 2016 – 30 more than the previous year and 91 more than in 2012.
