Halfway CC get four new mem­bers

Halfway Com­mu­nity Coun­cil have added four peo­ple to their group.

At a meet­ing last Wed­nes­day Jan­ice Orr, James McGeachy, Li­isa Hep­worth and John Edgar were all voted on to the coun­cil.

That brings the to­tal num­ber of com­mu­nity coun­cil­lors to 12.

Chair Dougie Baird said: “We still have six spa­ces for peo­ple from any other area to come on board.”

The coun­cil meet on the third Wed­nes­day of each month at 7pm in Cairns Pri­mary School.

Their next meet­ing will take place on Wed­nes­day, May 19.

They cover is­sues af­fect­ing the Cam­bus­lang East ward, in­clud­ing the com­mu­ni­ties of Flem­ing­ton, Halfway, Cairns, Over­ton, Light­burn, West­burn, New­ton, Drum­sagard, Hall­side and Green­lees.

Com­mu­nity coun­cils are vol­un­tary or­gan­i­sa­tions set up by statute and run by lo­cal res­i­dents to act on be­half of their area.

Main ac­tiv­i­ties in­clude: iden­ti­fy­ing and tak­ing ac­tion on lo­cal is­sues such as plan­ning and li­cens­ing ap­pli­ca­tions, or­gan­is­ing com­mu­nity events and li­ais­ing with the pub­lic au­thor­i­ties and other agen­cies about lo­cal ser­vices.
