Halfway CC get four new members

Halfway Community Council have added four people to their group.

At a meeting last Wednesday Janice Orr, James McGeachy, Liisa Hepworth and John Edgar were all voted on to the council.

That brings the total number of community councillor­s to 12.

Chair Dougie Baird said: “We still have six spaces for people from any other area to come on board.”

The council meet on the third Wednesday of each month at 7pm in Cairns Primary School.

Their next meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 19.

They cover issues affecting the Cambuslang East ward, including the communitie­s of Flemington, Halfway, Cairns, Overton, Lightburn, Westburn, Newton, Drumsagard, Hallside and Greenlees.

Community councils are voluntary organisati­ons set up by statute and run by local residents to act on behalf of their area.

Main activities include: identifyin­g and taking action on local issues such as planning and licensing applicatio­ns, organising community events and liaising with the public authoritie­s and other agencies about local services.
