Halfway CC can’t change names until2018
Halfway Community Council will not look to change their name.
Members had discussed the possibility at previous meetings, but they have now been told they will need to wait until 2018 at the earliest.
At their most recent meeting last week, chair Dougie Baird said he had contacted South Lanarkshire Council on the issue.
He added: “That [a change in name]can only happen in the four year cycle review and that does not take place until 2018.
“Some members were looking to change it to the Cambuslang East Ward Community Council but I can’t do anything about that right now.
“Once the cycle comes around, if we are going to go down that road, we would need to change the constitution.”
Community councillors said there was no guarantee South Lanarkshire Council would allow a name change.
Secretary Jackie Rinn said: “I wouldn’t like to change it. It is something that is already established.”
