As Ruglonians enjoyed the May weekend, the Reformer took to the streets to ask locals if they support Jeremy Corbyn’s proposal for four extra bank holidays per year.

The Labour leader wants to give British workers four new bank holidays to celebrate the patron saints of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

James Neilson, a retired roads and lighting inspector, welcomed the proposal for working people.

“I would be in favour of it,” he said. “I haven’t worked in 15 years so every day is a holiday for me.”

Alex White agreed, saying: “If I was working I

would be all for it. I worked in construction and worked 40 hours a week, often six days a week.”

Elaine Dingwall said: “Of course I would welcome extra holidays, why not? – celebrating St Andrew’s Day would be quite nice. We could do more for St Andrew’s Day in Scotland.”

Chris Henzler supported this idea, stating a bank holiday should be held in the country marking their patron saint’s day.

He said: “Each country should have their own public holiday, St Andrew’s Day here, St George’s Day in England, etc.

“I lived in London for 30 years and they do a big thing with St George’s Day.

“We should celebrate St Andrew’s Day here and put the whisky down in price.”
