Charity drivehad Specs appeal

Generous staff and customers at a Rutherglen opticians raised £240 for Comic Relief.

Customers visiting the Specsavers store in Stonelaw Road had the chance to donate to the cause by buying their own pairs of novelty red waving hand glasses.

Specsavers Rutherglen store director Peter Beaton said: “We’re really pleased to have raised money for the cause.

“Customers really got into the spirit of things and enjoyed wearing their novelty specs.

“Thank you to everyone who donated – it’s very much appreciate­d.”

The collection lasted until March 24 - the night of Comic Relief 2017.

So far, Comic Relief 2017 has rasied over £73 million for good causes.

Specsavers in Rutherglen joined stores nationwide to support Comic Relief to help poor and vulnerable people living tough lives both here in the UK and across Africa as part of a drive to raise at least £250,000 for the charity.

Specsavers has been a Comic Relief partner since 2015.
