A Cambuslang woman has spoken of her excitement after being selected for the Scotland senior bowls squad.

Rachel Sinclair, 23, will join the team for the very first time as a reserve as they prepare for their Home International Series matches next month.

The married mum-of-one has also been selected for the junior squad for their upcoming tournament.

Rachel, who works at Ace Place Nursery on Rodger Drive in Rutherglen, says she is looking forward to gaining experience with the seniors.

She said: “I will be travelling to Wales as part of Team Scotland on June 18-20.

“I’ve been playing for Scotland at under 25 level but it’s great to be selected for the senior Scotland team.

“I’m not sure if I will get a game but I will still get good experience from it.

“I’ve also been selected for the junior team again so it’s going to be a couple of busy months with that and also juggling my two year-old!”

The former Bankhead Primary and Stonelaw High School pupil has excelled herself on the greens for both her country and club, Kingswood BC, which has helped her break into the Scotland squads.

Rachel has been playing bowls since the age of six and, along with her sister Karen Magee, was part of her nation’s historical International Series Under 25 tournament triumph in Wales in February. It was Scotland’s first victory in eight years at the competition.

Rachel has also won the club championships twice, the indoor club championships and qualified for the national finals after winning in the Scottish District match in 2016.

Her aim now is to impress at senior level and was delighted to make it through the trials.

Rachel added: “I think my time at junior possibly helped.

“But they did change the trials this year.

“They had different benchmarking throughout the day and marked you down on certain things.

“We then played a game in the afternoon and you get marked on that as well.

“It’s great to have got through that. I don’t know if they will play me. They don’t tend to change the team about too much. It depends on how they are playing.

“I’m not too bothered if I don’t play really because I will still be part of the squad.”
