Burnside

On the competition front, the last week was less than successful. It started with both teams in the seniors losing their games and was quickly followed by both the pairs and rink teams suffering defeats in the Glasgow Bowling Association games.

The one light in an otherwise dark week was in the Gilliland League where the Burnside team held off a spirited comeback by Kirkhill to taste victory. The club wish to congratulate the team consisting of Dougie Johnston, Scott Stevenson, Snudge Allan and Marc Stirratt (skip). President Kenneth Stirratt wishes all the teams out in the GBA, SBA and R&D games this week good luck.

On Saturday Burnside welcomed their old friends from Cambuslang for a traditional parish match. Vice president Walter Matthews led the Burnside team in the absence of Kenneth Stirratt.

The weather was less than fair but with a skilful change of schedule most of the games were played in fair conditions. Although the vice president managed to lead his rink to victory, the game resulted in a narrow win for Cambuslang. However, a great day was had by all and both teams look forward to the next time.

Monday night’s aggregate game was convincingly won by ten shots. The winning team consisted of Duncan Hughes, Alex Stupart, Dougie Johnston and skipped by Jim Gibson.

Burnside are set to host six rinks for the GBA competition today, Wednesday, and if anyone wants to see the cream of Glasgow bowling talent, they are encouraged to come along and watch. The games will start at 6.15pm.

The competition notices for the nominated pairs and invitation triples are now displayed on the club notice boards with draw dates of May 21 and 31 respectively. Please make sure members get their entries in quickly.
