I will put Rutherglen and Hamilton West first
May I take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Andy Dixon and I am writing to inform you that I am standing as the independent candidate for the constituency of Rutherglen and Hamilton West at the upcoming general election.
Having been involved in Halfway Community Council for a couple of years, it has become apparent to me - as we attempted to solve various issues which affected our community - that trying to hold anyone in power to account was almost impossible. If we contacted the local council (at the time, Labour) they would say it was the Scottish Government’s fault who would then, in turn, blame Westminster.
I reached the conclusion party politics is a major obstacle when it comes to resolving the issues that our communities face. It appears that party politics is a real problem when any progress on the issues is even attempted.
It has become quite disheartening and I fully understand why so many people in the UK feel totally disconnected as ‘modern’ politics just seems to create problems for us whilst not appearing to solve them. After all the batting back and forth between various levels of government, the issue facing the community remains unsolved.
So, I decided to offer the fine people in the seat of Rutherglen and Hamilton West the opportunity to vote for an independent candidate for the first time in it’s short history. My promises to them are very simple:
I promise to serve them and only them. The people of Rutherglen and Hamilton West and their communities will always be my focus and my one and only priority.
Never, during my tenure as their MP, will party politics be placed before the needs and concerns of the fine people in this constituency.
As your independent MP I will serve the people of the constituency of Rutherglen and Hamilton West with honesty and integrity.
