“We held the event for all of our primary 4-7 pupils and we invited their parents/ carers as well.
“The Reading Challenge has all been about promoting a love of reading and getting pupils to read more for pleasure and our primary 4-7 pupils absolutely loved their visit from Kerr.
They had to complete a quiz that challenged their knowledge of authors and characters from books.
“Kerr then spoke to the pupils about how his love of reading and going out on adventures for inspiration which encouraged him to get into creative writing.
“Our pupils then got a sneak preview of Kerr’s new book The Rise of Wolves.
“They were devastated that the chapter ended with so much suspense and that they will have to wait until the book is published to find out what happens next.
“Many of our pupils have already said that they are going to purchase the book when it comes out.”
Vicky felt that the event was a big hit with youngsters and added: “We received lots of positive feedback from our pupils and parents/carers.
“One pupil told us that ‘his book could make me really enjoy reading’. Another pupil said: ‘We now know one way to become an author is to read lots of books.’
“One parent said: ‘It was great for the pupils to hear real life stories, it was a great session.’
“As a school, we are continuing to encourage all of our pupils to love reading and maybe some of our pupils will be inspired to take up creative writing and become budding authors.”
The Rise of Wolves is Kerr’s second novel and will be released in November.
