Event to help community
Ruglonians are being invited to a special event which aims to find ways of boosting community groups that improve the lives of local people.
The Building and Celebrating Communities event will look at existing community groups and those which volunteers may be struggling to get off the ground.
Organised by South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership (SLH&SCP), the workshop will run from 9.30am to 3.30pm on June 6 at Rutherglen Town Hall.
Val de Souza, director of health and social care at the partnership, said the event would identify what communities are already doing well; identify where they need help and thirdly identify what communities need SLH&SCP and partner agencies to do for them, initially or on an ongoing basis.
Ms de Souza said: “These seminars are action orientated. From the findings we want to prioritise a programme of work – so it’s important anyone with an interest in further developing their community, no matter how big or small, attends. We’d be delighted to see you there.” Cormac Russell, a world-leading thinker on community-driven change, will lead the seminar.
He has trained communities, agencies and governments in assetbased community development in more than 30 countries.
The Rutherglen Town Hall event will cover all communities in the Rutherglen and Cambuslang council wards.
Attendance is free and places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis. To book contact Giuliana Gustinelli on 01698 453700 or email giuliana.gustinelli@southlanarkshire. gcsx.gov.uk
