Who would you pick for special gig?

We ask locals what music they love

- Jonathan Geddes

Scotland is set for a typically busy summer of gigs and concerts.

This weekend sees the Stone Roses play Hampden Park and Elton John perform a stadium show in Airdrie.

In July Glasgow Green will host the new Trnsmt festival, headlined by the likes of Radiohead and Biffy Clyro, while big pop names such as Olly Murs are playing Edinburgh Castle.

With that in mind, we asked locals in Rutherglen who they would choose to see in concert - and they could pick anyone from any era.

Ishbel MacDonald said: “I’d pick Genesis. I don’t mind Phil Collins but I would want to see the original line-up, with Peter Gabriel as their singer. I was a student when I got into them, and he (Gabriel) had left by then.”

Peter Clancy said: “I’m a big Rod Stewart fan, so him. I’ve seen him a couple of times at places like the SECC and I’d always go and see him again. I liked him growing up, although my brother was even more of a fan. The rest of it I leave to my kids these days.”

John Millar said: “I’d pick Tom Waits. I’ve never seen him live but he’s still breathing so there’s still a chance! I’ve missed him a couple of times before and I’ve been a fan of his since the 1980s.”

Jo Scollin, who was joined by her daughter Marianne, said: “David Bowie would be my choice. I never saw him live but I would have loved to. I must have started listening to him when I was 12 or 13.”
