Stay put for safety
The standard advice for multistorey tenants is to stay in their flat in the event of a fire in their block.
That is unless the fire is actually in their flat or they are being directly affected by smoke or heat.
In the WWHC flats, each flat is designed to contain a fire for a sufficient time for the emergency services to attend, assess the situation and determine if evacuation is required.
The emergency services would then carry out an evacuation if required.
WWHC publishes fire safety advice in its quarterly newsletters to tenants, on its website and in its new tenant information packs.
It will be writing to all multistorey flat tenants over the next few days to further promote that message and provide an update on the recent comprehensive fire safety review.
