Driver allegedly drunk at wheel

A man who allegedly fell asleep at the wheel of his car at traffic lights in Rutherglen has been charged with drink driving.

The 45-year-old was arrested by police when officers reportedly found him slumped at the wheel of a stationary car at traffic lights near Shawfield Stadium.

The man was also charged with assaulting a police officer after allegedly becoming confrontational with officers who approached him in the grey Volkswagen car at around 9.30pm on Saturday.

Police had been alerted to the driver after a member of the public reportedly saw his vehicle being driven erratically on Glasgow Road,

The man was held in police custody and was due to attend Glasgow Sheriff Court this week.
