Dance call for talented Jennifer
Youth company will spend 10 days in India
A talented Cambuslang dancer is set to showcase her skills when she performs far from home, in India later this summer.
Jennifer Bruce, 18, is a member of the National Youth Dance Company for Scotland.
The company will be travelling to Dublin, Birmingham and then finally spending 10 days in Kolkata as part of their summer.
Jennifer’s proud mum Tracey is delighted at how well things are going for the former Cairns primary and Cathkin High pupil.
She said:” It’ll be a busy summer for her because the National Youth firstly have Dublin and then Birmingham in July, then they fly out to India in August.
“They’re the only youth company that have been asked out there, and the only company from the UK that are performing.
“I think they’ll perform twice at the festival, and they’ll take part in workshops there too.”
The event Jennifer will be performing at is the Dance Bridges festival, which is an event with an emphasis on building artistic and cultural exchanges between international and local dance artists.
Tracey added: “It’s absolutely a great opportunity for her.
“Jennifer auditioned for Y Dance last year and there were less than 20 places available.
“It’s extremely hard to get in, there’s dancers who come from Dundee and London to perform with them.
“She was very fortunate that she had done various things with Y Dance before and she was really hopeful when she auditioned that she would get in, but because there are so many limited places we knew it would be tough. We were so proud of her.”
“They spend a full weekend working together once a month.
“Every time she does something you think she can’t top that, but then she does something else she’s already been to New York and performed in places like the Tramway in Glasgow.”
Two years ago the Reformer told how Jennifer was travelling to perform in Singapore as part of an international exchange programme organised by Scottish Ballet.
Jennifer will begin studying for an HND in dance at Glasgow Clyde College in the autumn.
