A special event will be held in Fernhill Community Centre to showcase the work done by volunteers in the scheme from 2-6pm on Wednesday, July 12.

Groups who operate in the centre include the senior citizens club, gents bowling, a youth club , bingo and the popular Fernhill Soccer School.

Also there on the day will be South Lanarkshir­e Leisure and Culture’s ACE programme. This week sees the start of Friday Fun at Rutherglen Exchange.

The shopping centre is launching its Crafting Cart on Friday as part of its summer programme of activities.

Taking place every week, the cart will offer craft workshops to children between midday and 3pm.

They will have the opportunit­y to make an array of goodies including sand art, jewellery, badges, masks and keepsake boxes.

And the Rutherglen Exchange mascot, Rex, will pop in occasional­ly to help kids get creative. Businesses and shoppers are being urged to be vigilant for counterfei­t notes.

Clydesdale Bank fake £20 notes have been passed around both Rutherglen and Cambuslang in the past week.

Several local shops in particular have reported finding fake notes in the last few days.

If people suspect they are in possession of one, they should take it to their bank or local police station for destructio­n.
