A spe­cial event will be held in Fern­hill Com­mu­nity Cen­tre to show­case the work done by vol­un­teers in the scheme from 2-6pm on Wed­nes­day, July 12.

Groups who op­er­ate in the cen­tre in­clude the se­nior ci­ti­zens club, gents bowl­ing, a youth club , bingo and the pop­u­lar Fern­hill Soc­cer School.

Also there on the day will be South La­nark­shire Leisure and Cul­ture’s ACE pro­gramme. This week sees the start of Fri­day Fun at Ruther­glen Ex­change.

The shop­ping cen­tre is launch­ing its Craft­ing Cart on Fri­day as part of its sum­mer pro­gramme of ac­tiv­i­ties.

Tak­ing place every week, the cart will of­fer craft work­shops to chil­dren be­tween mid­day and 3pm.

They will have the op­por­tu­nity to make an ar­ray of good­ies in­clud­ing sand art, jew­ellery, badges, masks and keep­sake boxes.

And the Ruther­glen Ex­change mas­cot, Rex, will pop in oc­ca­sion­ally to help kids get cre­ative. Busi­nesses and shop­pers are be­ing urged to be vig­i­lant for coun­ter­feit notes.

Cly­des­dale Bank fake £20 notes have been passed around both Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang in the past week.

Sev­eral lo­cal shops in par­tic­u­lar have re­ported find­ing fake notes in the last few days.

If peo­ple sus­pect they are in pos­ses­sion of one, they should take it to their bank or lo­cal po­lice sta­tion for de­struc­tion.
