Fun in Castlemilk

- Douglas Dickie

All the fun of the fair came to Castlemilk this summer and the whole community came out to enjoy it.

The Braes Shopping Centre welcomed fairground rides from the Codona family, who run travelling shows throughout Scotland.

From Thursday, June 29 until Sunday, July 2 young and old alike came out in their numbers to enjoy the rides.

The fun fair proved so popular the rides have been invited back again. Alasdair Irving, manager of the shopping centre, said: “The event went down very well with the community, and we got a lot of thanks from everybody, young and old.

“A lot of people remarked that this reminded them of Castlemilk in its prime in the ‘60 and ‘70s when the fair would be a regular attraction.

“I have invited the fair back for an event next summer and also for the Christmas lights switchon in December. If I’m lucky, there may be a time in between that they can return too.

“It was very well run by the Codona’s. I could not believe that they could host so many rides in our overflow car park and there was still plenty of room to mill about.”
