Banging in the goals, lots of silky passes, best team in the world, we love our Scottish lassies...

Des urgesTartan Army to get behind team with new chants

- Douglas Dickie

King’s Park comedian Des Clarke is hoping to help inspire Scotland’s women footballers to glory this summer – after penning a number of catchy chants for the side.

Des, who attended Holyrood Secondary, teamed up with Vauxhall Motors, who sponsor the national team, to come up with the songs. Scotland’s women will start their campaign on Wednesday, July 19, against England. It is the first time the women’s side have qualified for the finals and the first time a senior Scottish team has reached the finals stage of an international tournament since 1998.

Des recorded the fun chants at the world famous Abbey Road studio.

They include chants ranging from ones for the whole team, to those for individual players, including Hibernian’s Joelle Murray and Glasgow City stars Leanne Ross and Jo Love.

Des said: “This is the first international football tournament for Scotland for nearly 20 years and I couldn’t be prouder of our team.

“Writing the chants was a fun challenge. I had a blast playing around with the lyrics, and a right good laugh coming up with the rhymes.

“I hope the public enjoy learning and singing the chants as we all get behind the team this summer and make some noise for our ladies.”

The songs are part of Vauxhall’s #GetIN campaign to rally the fans to make some noise and get behind the players for the competition, which starts on Sunday in the Netherlands.

To highlight the chants, the players were taken back to somewhere that helped them on their journey.

You can see the results in the pictures.

And if you fancy getting behind the girls this month, you could start with Des’s chant for the full squad: “Banging in the goals, lots of silky passes, best team it the world, we love our Scottish lassies.”
