Three teenagers from a Cambuslang gym have competed in their first ever CrossFit British Championship.

Lauren McEwan, Declan Blair, and Nikki Jamieson, who train at the Fortius gym on Mansion Street, travelled to Brighton to take on some of the fittest athletes in the country on July 8.

Lauren (13-15 years) and Declan (16-17 years), both from Cambuslang, finished fifth and seventh in their categories, respectively. While Nikki, who resides in Kilmarnock, won first place in the 18-19 years section.

Coach Nisha Purewal said:“This is an amazing achievement for the guys especially because this is their first year. They have all been training five to six weeks for it so we are all very pleased.

“For Nikki to win is a really big accomplishment because in CrossFit you are expected to be fit in all aspects of the programme given to you.”

CrossFit workouts incorporate elements from high-intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics and other exercises for strength and conditioning.
