Derby clash date is not right

- Murray Spooner

Cambuslang Rangers boss Paul McColl admits he is disappointed in the decision to arrange the first derby clash of the season for a Wednesday night.

Junior football chiefs have lined up The Lang’s final Sectional League Cup tie with Rutherglen Glencairn for August 16 (6.45pm).

But although the gaffer was not best pleased with the date of the fixture, he hopes to make home advantage count in the first two games of the competition against Vale of Clyde (August 2) and East Kilbride (August 5).

McColl said:“It is not ideal. It reduces half the crowd but there is nothing you can do.

“They are not there to do us any favours.

“We’ve got two home games to start off with which I’m happy about but there are no easy games.”

McColl has made three additions to the 21-man squad. Former Kirkintilloch Rob Roy star Sean McColl, ex-Rutherglen amateur player Harry Mitchell and Connor Brannigan have all penned deals at Somervell.
