Man denies eight charges including eye gouging

- Court reporter

A Croftfoot man faces eight charges including hiring three taxis without intending to pay and eye gouging a driver.

Jamie Anderson denies hiring the taxis from Eastvale Street, Finnieston Street and Cathcart Police Office in Glasgow, all to his home on Castlemilk Road, without paying a total fare of £31.20. The 23-year-old, while on a journey from Cathcart Police Office to his house, is believed to have repeatedly kicked the perspex partition separating himself and the taxi driver and thereafter attempt to kick open the rear vehicle door.

He is then said to have assaulted the driver by pushing his fingers into the man’s eye and punching him on the head to his injury at Menock Road, Croftfoot.

On a journey between Finnieston Street and Cathcart Police Office, Anderson is claimed to have shouted, swore and kicked a vehicle.

He was charged for doing the same between the police office and his home.

The man is also said to have shouted, swore and made homophobic remarks during a journey from his house and Cathcart Police Office.

Anderson denies all charges against him and is expected to attend trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court on August 4 at 10am.
