Pub night raises £1K for Manchester bomb victim

-

A pub night has raised more than £1,000 for Manchester bomb victim Piotr Chylewska and his family.

Piotr, 44, was left with severe injuries to his left eye and right leg after being hit by shrapnel from the blast on May 22.

His Burnhill neighbours came together last week to organise a fundraiser for their“hard working friend”in a bid to make life a little easier for him and his family.

It was held in The Fairways pub, yards from where Piotr lives with his wife Ewa and two children Kasper, 15, and Amelia, 12.

Manager and Chylewska family friend Collette McAllistair said it was a great success.

“It went really well,” Collette said,“we raised over £1,000.

“We had a great night, there was a great turn out. There was a great atmosphere and everyone joined in.”

The fundraiser included a dance, raffle and auction, with a host of coveted items donated by businesses and national organisations. Profits from the bar on the night were also included.

Piotr was waiting at Manchester Arena to pick up his wife, their daughter and her friend who had been at the Ariana Grande concert when the bomb detonated.

He was rushed to hospital in Manchester where he underwent a 12-hour operation on his left eye and was placed in an induced comma.
