The club sadly learned in the last week that former Burnside president Sandy Scrimgeour passed away on Wednesday, July 12.

Sandy was twice president of the club in 1990 and again in 2009 and was regularly wise counsel for others who filled the role.

He was widely known as a respected and experience­d bowling umpire over many years and could always keep members right with the bowling rules and regulation­s.

The funeral service will be at South Lanarkshir­e Crematoriu­m at 11am on Friday, July 21.

On the greens, the Cambuslang and District Senior 4’s kept up their poor run of form when both teams came second in their respective games.

The Glasgow Bowling League teams fared slightly better with the home team registerin­g a win whilst the away team sadly tasted defeat.

In the Rutherglen and District Triples League games against Kingswood, both teams lost out.

This Saturday will see the arrival of Blantyre Bowling Club for the clubs’ annual game and everyone at Burnside is looking forward to it.

Next week there will be a healthy representa­tion from Burnside heading to Northfield for the Bowls Scotland National finals. Andrew Wilson is first up on Monday, July 24 in the junior under 25’s section and his game starts at 3.30pm on green A, rink one.

The fours then play on Wednesday, July 26 with their game starting at 12.30pm on green E, rink six.

Finally, the triples will play on Thursday, July 27 and their game starts at 9am on green D, rink four. The club wishes good luck to all concerned.

The Monday night aggregate game was won by the team of Ernie Worrall, Jim Burns, Iain Mackintosh and skipped by Alex Hay by a massive 22 shots.

Cambuslang

The Rutherglen District Triples League continued on Tuesday night, July 11, against Halfway and District. Cambuslang drew at home and lost the away game.

The RDBA league continued this week with fixtures home and away against Burnside last night.

The club’s seniors play in the Cambuslang District Seniors league every Wednesday morning, two rinks at 10.30am. Last week they played away at Rutherglen and narrowly lost both games. Members are due to play at home to Overtoun Park today, Wednesday.

On Monday the weekly winners were Ian Skillen and Will McArthur who were nine shots up.

The ladies section continue to meet every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, all welcome.

The Ladies Triples tournament will take place on Sunday, July 30, at 10am.

President James McGall has a club open Ryder Cup scheduled for Saturday, July 29.

Rutherglen

The club Top 10 team beat Scotstounh­ill by three games to one at Templeton last week. They now go forward to the next round at Cathcart.

Portland Kilmarnock visited Rutherglen last Saturday for their annual friendly game and the visitors had a narrow win to take home the Friendship Quaich.

The results in the Rutherglen and District Triples League and Cambuslang and District seniors league continue to be positive.

In the North Eastern League last Friday evening the club could only manage an away win against Bailliesto­n. The last game in the league is this Friday against North British.

The annual friendly against Croftfoot takes place on Saturday afternoon.

In the Bowls Scotland Super Series Mark Kelsey has won through to the last 32 in the singles and Mark and his dad Gary won through to the same stage in the pairs. These are to be played on August 19 and 12 respective­ly.

The Monday evening aggregate game was won by Iain Paul and Gil Morgan.

Whitefield

The LBA Leagues continued on Friday evening with Whitefield’s Division 7 team winning all of their home games against Houldswort­h . The Division 17 team continue to struggle after losing all three games away to Law. There are no games for a couple of weeks as a break comes in to coincide with the Glasgow Fair holidays.

The RDBA Triples League continued on Tuesday night with two wins against Kirkhill. They were due to play Halfway and District last night.

The senior representa­tive games continued in the Cambuslang and District League. Whitefield played Templeton in the two rink format, recording one win and a defeat.

It is very tight at the top of the league with Whitefield only one point behind leaders Mount Florida.

Meanwhile, the LBA District 26 League continues and Whitefield gained a good haul of three wins and one defeat in last week’s fixtures.

The Monday night gents aggregate was won by Andy McMillan and Michael Rodgers who were ten shots up. This Saturday sees the gents back out on the green in the Wilson Balloted Triples.

Last Saturday saw the ladies host their invitation pairs event. Georgie O’Hagan and Agnes Fitzpatric­k won the final. The ladies aggregate was won by Muriel Doyle and Rosie Gallagher.

Halfway & District

Last Saturday saw the balloted pairs take place at Halfway and District. Sixteen teams took part and despite the inclement weather, the competitio­n was completed. The eventual winners were Pat McWilliams and Jim Stoddart who defeated Taylor Gray and Jim Wilson in the final.

This Saturday sees the Rosebowl take place with a noon start.

There is no cost to play and members (ladies and gents) are asked to bring along a non-playing partner along with some nibbles.

A buffet will be served at some point during the afternoon. It is a beach party theme so participan­ts should try and wear a beachy / summery outfit.

There was mixed fortunes in the Lanarkshir­e League last week. The Division 3 team lost 4-2 away to Quarter but the Division 10 team got their promotion hopes back on track with a 6-0 win at home to Hamilton Caley.

In the RDBA Triples League, Halfway managed a home win and an away draw against Cambuslang last Tuesday.

This week’s opponents are Whitefield, next week’s are Templeton.

David Fergus was part of the Lanarkshir­e South team that made it through to the final of the Andrew Hamilton Trophy after defeating West Lothian last Saturday.

They will now face Midlothian at Crieff on Saturday at 2pm in the final.
