Rutherglen Reformer - - The Back Page - Murray Spooner

Burnside golfer Lewis Irvine was left waiting to find out if he had made the cut for today’s match play after positive outings in the Gents Scottish Amateur Championships.

The 17-year-old from Rutherglen had a difficult start to the 36-hole stroke play event at Prestwick and Prestwick St Cuthbert on Monday finishing on +2.

But the youngster, who was among the four Kirkhill Golf Club members to compete in qualifying, hit three birdies before bogeying four holes on the back nine . He ended overall on +3 with other players yet to finish.

Craig Ross was joint 34th at+ 1 on Monday and was already threequarters of the way round the St Cuthbert course yesterday before the Reformer went to print.

Kirkhill golfer Alan Brown finished on +8 yesterday while Fraser Kane scored +15. G. Brown (par) and David McLaren (+1), of Cathkin Braes Golf Club, were also in contention for today’s match play .
