Pub is Still Game
Hit show pays a visit to the Royal Burgh
The Fairways Bar proved it was ‘Still Game’ when the hit TV show descended on the Rutherglen pub this week.
Jack Javis, Victor McDade, Winston Ingram and Tam Mullen all propped up the bar on Friday as filming for the new series got underway.
And the foursome proved a hit with landlady Collette McAllister, who handed over her lounge for production on the day.
A life-long fan of the show, Collette said: “I can’t say too much about the storyline because I have been sworn to secrecy.
“What I can say is I gave them the use of the lounge. They came and took my door off and put a fake one on and they had a stunt man and lots of equipment.
“He came crashing through the door in the filming.
“They also changed the name to the Coral Bar.”
Collette did not remain behind the bar for the filming, but enjoyed a front-row seat to the production.
“I was in a tent watching it being filmed,” she said. “They treated me like royalty.
“The cast were gentlemen, they were asking all about the pub — they were lovely.
“Once people realised it was happening, people were hanging out of their windows getting pictures. The cast stayed and got photos with everyone.”
Describing the production as a real coup for the Fairways, which has only been open for seven months, Colette added: “Watching it was amazing, I was on a pure high.
“It’s the biggest show in Scotland and it came to Rutherglen and my pub.
“It’s a big boost for Rutherglen and the pub. Still Game has places all over Glasgow to choose from and they chose us and that’s really amazing.
“We’re looking forward to giving the people of Rutherglen the same warm welcome we offered the BBC.”
Ruglonians will be keeping a close eye on the bar as the Still Game cast are expected to make a return to venue for further filming later in the year.
