Rev Neil Glover could be set to leave his role at Flemington Hallside Church after 12 years in Halfway. The popular minister will preach as sole nominee for a congregation in Aberfeldy next month.

One of Rutherglen and Cambuslang’s bestloved ministers could be set to leave his “inspirational” parish.

Rev Neil Glover has been minister at Flemington Hallside Church since December 2005.

But his time in the town is set to end if he is elected minister at Aberfeldy on September 3.

Rev Glover will preach as nominee for the congregation, which is also linked with Dull and Weem, Grandtully, Logierait and Strathtay.

He told the Reformer the Halfway community will always have a place in his heart if he leaves.

He said: “It has been fabulous. The people are fantastic and the community has been incredibly welcoming.

“A lot of the stories you hear in this community are about hope, about people coming together to support each other.

“It’s amazing to see people caring for others, maybe a family member with Alzheimer’s or their children.

“That’s not to say people here don’t have huge challenges but it is amazing how they overcome them.

“It is incredibly inspirational.”

Rev Glover praised locals for their determination to change their area for the better.

He highlighted the campaign for a new primary school which eventually bore fruit when Park View opened and the campaign to retain school transport for pupils travelling to secondary school. He also praised the support the church has received from the likes of the Tudor Inn and highlighted the work that goes on at Eva Burrows Centre.

He added: “I love the fact worship at the church has been encouraging. We’ve had people from different backgrounds coming, including people who did not think the church was for them.

“It’s been a privilege to be part of people’s lives, in times of great sadness like a death of a loved one or an illness, as well as times of great joy like the birth of a child or a marriage. What has touched me is the fact that lots of people have contacted me thanking me.

“You are never always aware of how your life has touched others.”

Rev Glover informed his flock of his possible departure at the weekend.

Explaining his decision he said it was a desire to spread the word of the church in places where it is needed, adding: “There are parts of the country where they have a big demand for ministers.”
