Don’t be telling me to ‘break a leg’ after summer on crutches

-

At the start of August – after snapping my Achilles tendon at the beginning of March – I hobbled back on stage, after five months on crutches, and performed two sell out shows at East Kilbride Village Theatre and Rutherglen Town Hall.

But I’m relieved to say the show went really well and the audiences loved it. PHEW! So look out for my show coming to a venue near you next year – oh, and don’t be telling me to ‘break a leg’.

My sister loves the outdoors and everything ethereal. But when she requested an outdoor tea party for her 30th birthday I genuinely thought it was a joke.

When she assured me she wasn’t joking I declared ‘Pal, we live in Glasgow. Get that idea out of your head right now because it is absolutely not going to happen!’

Then I of course sat for hours trying to come up with a way to make it happen for her.

I struck gold with The Hidden Gardens, which is a beautiful outdoor space with access to a boiler house through sliding glass doors - the perfect back up in case of bad weather. It is a hidden gem tucked away on the Southside accessed through the Tramway Theatre.

With a woodland mid-summer night’s dream theme, my sister Siobhan got the surprise of her life when she arrived to a tea party banquet table, with fox’s, unicorns, fairies, frogs and loads of other woodland animals sitting around the table to greet her.

We then went to the White Wlephant in Muirend where we transformed their function room into a woodland den with fairy lights and lanterns and candles everywhere it was truly beautiful.

Happy 30th Birthday Siobhan! Welcome to the thirties club palski, the best club in the land. Follow your dreams and let nothing hold you back.

It’s that time again, where everyone runs about manic buying new shoes, pencil cases, bags and uniforms for their wee ones going back to or starting their first day of school.

A quick mention to all the amazing wee people in my life: Sophie, Jordan, Luca, Libby, Kaylee, Olivia, Carmen, Orlaith, Noah, Jessica and Stevie who are starting and returning to school this week.

It’s not just ‘back to school’ for the weans. It’s back to school for us grown-ups too as the River City cast and crew head back to the studios after our summer break.

Scripts and highlighters at the ready, and an apple for the director.

After fourteen weeks off it really does feel like the first day of school for us when we go back. Everyone always feels that little bit of nerves walking back onto set after a long break but we always get off to a flying start.

I’m really looking forward to seeing all of my Shieldinch buddies again and filming some great TV for you all.
