Rutherglen Reformer

Ged and James are the word on street

-

Rutherglen and Cambuslang residents came face to face with their new MP for the first time this week as Labour’s Gerard Killen listened to the concerns and troubles affecting his constituency.

Labour MSP James Kelly joined Mr Killen as they spent the week holding roving surgeries on the street, as well as picking up casework, knocking doors and discussing local issues.

NHS waiting times, cuts to council budgets, parking problems and issues with schools were among the topics put to both politicians.

Mr Killen, who was elected as the MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West in June after reclaiming the seat for Labour from the SNP, has pledged to be as visible as possible.

He said:“Rutherglen and Cambuslang residents responded well to James and I being out and about, talking about the issues that really matter.

“It’s fine making political points at election time, but it’s important that folk know we are here to help all year round with whatever problems, no matter how big or small.”

Mr Kelly added: “It was a great week getting round every council ward in the area.

“A lot of people don’t know Ged and I both have offices working behind us who can help with a range of issues, and they were pleased when we took on cases including with the NHS, housing and benefits.”
