Kids’ show is a hit at home
Budding actors helped bring some cheer to a local nursing home.
The Hall of Fame Acting Academy, based in Blairbeth, popped by the Rodgerpark Care Home and performed a couple of songs from ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and ‘Alice In Wonderland’.
They stayed behind after the songs to chat to the residents.
Caitlin Boyle, the company director, said: “My auntie suffered from dementia and was a resident at Rowantree/ Rodgerpark Care Home.
“I noticed the residents interactions change around young children and that is why I had the idea for my students to perform their showcase for the residents and their families.
“The students just did their first summer showcase ‘A Night at the Movies’ at the end of June and it was a massive success, a real learning curve for the students.
“I thought performing at the care home would be a great opportunity for them to put something back into their community.
“I contacted the home and the staff were very keen for us to come along and entertain the residents. They selected ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland’.
“The children singing and performing the nostalgic scenes really engaged the residents.
“The students stayed for some time after the performance to chat and interact with the residents and the care home has invited us back to perform at Christmas.”
The students stopped by Camglen Radio the following day, where they were interviewed on air.
The academy hold classes every week at Rodger Memorial Church Hall in Kirkriggs Avenue.
