The Rutherglen District Triples League finished last Tuesday, August 15, with games against Rutherglen which Cambuslang won away but lost at home. The club would like to congratula­te Kingswood who won the overall competitio­n.

Cambuslang seniors play two rinks in the Cambuslang District Seniors league every Wednesday morning at 10.30am.

Last Wednesday at home against Kingswood they won both games. The league finishes this week with an away game against Burnside.

The ladies section continue to meet every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, all ladies welcome.

The ladies finals week commenced on Monday with matches scheduled every afternoon throughout the week.

The Mixed Triples Tournament took place on Saturday. The eventis sponsored by funeral directors Birrell Corrance who were very active and generous hosts on the day. The tournament was won by a triple from Halfway, George Thomson, Flo Thomson and Tom Ingram with local triple Richard McInall senior, Richard McInall junior and Eleanor McLean runners-up.

A most enjoyable day was had by all, and Cambuslang thank all their sponsors.

On Sunday the club hosted the annual Elliot Dobie Cambuslang/Ayrshire masonic match. Winners were a local team representi­ng Lodge Buchanan consisting of Andy Robinson, Danny McDougall, Peter Phillips and skipped by Alan Fellows. They beat Cambuslang Royal Arch in the final. The majority of the club finals were played over the weekend with a number of cracking games deciding who lifted the silverware for this year. The gents champion was Michael Docherty who won against Michael Rodgers. The ladies winner was Joyce Kelly who won against Helen Flannigan.

The remaining winners and runnersup were; Mark O’Hagan ( President’s Cup against Aly Paton Jr), Michael O’Hagan (Vice President’s Cup against Tam McLinden), Tam Devenny (Senior Gents champion against Douglas Knape), Barbara Morris ( Senior Ladies champion against Anne Grant), Anne Grant (Mary Ingles Trophy against Carolanne Docherty), Aiden Friel ( Junior champion against Kieran Duffy), Andy Stewart and Michael Docherty ( Gents Pairs against Dougie Smith and Aly Paton), Heather Blair and Mary Smith (Ladies Pairs against Barbara Morris and Joyce Kelly), Helen Flannigan and Jim Molloy (Mixed Pairs against Barbara and Michael Morris).

The remaining finals will be played over the course of the coming weekend. The club wish best of luck to all those contesting the various titles and are hoping for some good weather and cracking bowls to come.

The conclusion of the Lanarkshir­e Leagues was a bit of a damp squib with the weather wiping out the Division 7 tie against Bailliesto­n.

As it turned out, the division was won by Bellshill but a great effort was put in by the Cambuslang players who finished second.

The Division 17 team were also scheduled to play at home against their relegation rivals Colville Park. However, even before the weather could play a factor, the match was conceded by the opponents meaning that the team remain in the division for another season.

The RDBA Triples League concluded on Tuesday night with a win and a loss against Overtoun Park. A fairly poor season ended with the club in the bottom half of the table.

The seniors currently sit second in the Cambuslang and District League after losing both games against Burnside.

The Monday night gents aggregate was won by Bert Baillie and John Campbell.

This week’s ladies aggregate winners were Muriel Doyle, Elaine McCann and Anne Grant. Rutherglen’s Top 10 team were beaten by Hyndland in the semi-final last Sunday at Maryhill. There was however, better news for their Top Five team who won through to the semi-final by four Finals Day will take place at Halfway and District this Saturday. A lot of semi-finals have still to be played this week so the final line up will not be known until later in the week.

Anyone who is double engaged will play their other finals on one of the Sundays in September as has happened for the last few years.

Just like last year the finals will be staggered with the ladies and gents championsh­ip finals and some other finals being played at 1pm. The other finals will take place at approximat­ely 3pm.

The two Lanarkshir­e League teams finished on a high last Friday night. The Division 3 team picked up four points away to Motherwell MW to finish joint fourth. The Division 10 team hosted Motherwell MW and picked up the maximum six points to secure their place in the top half of the table.

The Cambuslang and District Ladies Top 10 will take place at Halfway next Tuesday night at 6.30pm and Whitefield will take on East Kilbride.

In the final round of RDBA Triples games last week Halfway won at home and lost away to Tollcross.

All the sheets are up for the September competitio­ns so members should append their names as soon as possible.
