Scots fail in Leeds

-

Cambuslang golfer Craig Ross believes his team of Scots will learn from a disappointing Men’s Home Internationals campaign after finishing the series without a point on the board.

Scotland placed bottom of the group after three straight losses to England, Wales and eventual winners Ireland who retained the trophy at Moortown, Yorkshire.

Kirkhill Golf Club member Ross, who heads to Tour School in September, reckons the young side can take their experience into next year’s competition.

He said:“We were making a couple of mistakes near the ends which was leaving us too much to do.

“None of us played well. We got on really well as a team but when it came to playing golf none of us played well.

“We had a fairly young team and a lot of them were making their debuts so I don’t know if it was nerves.

“Everyone deserved to be there though and were capable of beating anyone they came up against. It was just we didn’t play well.

“They will definitely learn from this experience, especially the younger ones.”

The Home Internationals involved five foursomes matches each morning followed by 10 singles matches over three days.

Fellow Kirkhill golfer Lewis Irvine failed to qualify for the British Boys Championships after finishing on 11+ in the stroke play.
