Rutherglen Reformer

We ask locals what’s your telly favourite?

Soaps and Still Game lead the way

- Jonathan Geddes

Rutherglen got a taste of TV fame last week when Still Game was filming in the area.

Fairways Bar on Chapel Street was taken over by Jack, Victor and company as the hit BBC show recorded scenes for an episode that will be shown next year.

Locals were delighted to see the telly favourites out and about, and they happily posed for pictures with bar staff.

The Still Game appearance got the Reformer wondering what TV shows Rutherglen and Cambuslang residents are tuning into, so we went out into Rutherglen to ask what programmes they love watching.

Barry McKay, from Rutherglen, said: “I really like Power. It’s just a really good, entertaining show.”

Fraser McCormack said: “I’d go for Still Game. It’s funny and something you can always associate with, because we’ve all got aunts and uncles or grannys and grandads who act like the characters. I’m not fussed about not seeing it in Rutherglen though, I’ll watch it on TV next year!”

Charly McCall said: “I like the Big Bang Theory and it’s usually pretty funny.

“I’m more about going out than staying in and I wouldn’t deliberately be trying to see it every time it’s on, but I’ll watch it if it’s on.”

Linda Black said: “I love watching all the soaps, so Corrie, Emmerdale and Eastenders.

“Eastenders is a bit boring the now but Corrie is really good.”

I’d go with Still Game, it’s funny and something you can always associate with” Fraser McCormack
