Down in wood with Project 31
Initiative provided free play sessions for youngsters that included a butterfly project and quest for hidden stones
Hundreds of families from Rutherglen and Cambuslang took part in more than 90 fun activities held in their communities throughout the school holidays.
Project 31’s summer schedule catered for children of all ages.
The play initiative ran dozens of activities over an eight-week period, with everything from the stone collecting challenge to the butterfly project proving hugely successful.
The butterfly project began on July 1 with the children getting caterpillars at a forest school session.
The caterpillars were then looked after in the Project 31 office with children and families being updated on their progress regularly through Facebook and people popping into the office to see them.
The butterflies were released on July 28 at a special session in Cambuslang Park where the children made butterfly mementos such as butterfly charm bracelets and hungry caterpillar headbands.
This, combined with the summer stone challenge, where children hunted for painted stones across the two towns, was a highlight of the summer.
Lorna Bamford, of Project 31, said: “We’ve had another fantastic summer with around 90 free-of-charge sessions and hundreds of children and families taking part.
“We’ve had eight weeks of great themes with arts and crafts, drama, dancing, campfires, play, outdoor learning, forest school activities, and much more, taking place.
“The success of our summer stone project has been brilliant and has led to us hiding more than 2,000 stones around Rutherglen and Cambuslang.
“The whole Summer Fun programme has been really well received and we’re delighted to have been able to provide local children and families with so many opportunities to play, spend time together and make holiday memories.”
Project 31’s autumn schedule will be published in the coming weeks and includes lots of activities outwith school hours.
