New source of furry and feathery friends

Maybe fish in future

- Edel Kenealy

Rabbits, hamsters, budgies and reptiles welcomed shoppers to Burnside at the weekend as a new pet shop opened its doors.

Creature Comforts on Stonelaw Road is the brainchild of Ann and Graeme Wilson, who both hail from the village.

The husband and wife team officially opened the business last week with an open day full of fun and furry animals.

Ann said: “The shop is a bit unusual in that it sells pets and pet supplies. We have a range of pets, anything from hamsters to guineapigs, rabbits, budgies and reptiles.

“We are currently looking to gauge the popularity of fish as at the moment we are sending people to our Clarkston store.

“We have everything for pets from feed to accessories, everything you need to look after them.”

Burnside is the fourth store to open under the Creature Comforts banner, with other shops in Clarkston, Shawlands and Milngavie.

But it remains a familyrun business with Graeme concentrating on front of house and Ann taking care of the finances and general business administration.

And Ann is especially pleased the pair have been able to open an outlet in Burnside.

“We were both brought up in Burnside,” she said.

“We were always aware of it and it fits into our remit of what we were looking for: an area with young families and we have a knowledge of the area.

“It’s great to see the number of people coming in whom we grew up with.

“We have had fantastic support from the local community. We had the opening party on Saturday and that was brilliant. We have had great feedback from customers via social media and in the shop.”

Ann and Graeme are looking forward to further expanding their business with home delivery and online shopping is also in the pipeline.
