Kris & Co fired up before cup semi

- Murray Spooner

Cambuslang Rangers skipper Kris Gebbie says his teammates fear nobody as they gear up for tonight’s semi-final of the Sectional League Cup.

Unbeaten in all competitions this season, Cambuslang host Clydebank at Somervell in the last four stage after a 2-0 victory over St Roch’s in the last round.

The 24-year-old is desperate to reach his first final with the club he joined last year from Lowland League side East Kilbride.

And Gebbie, a former Stonelaw High School pupil, revealed the players are in high spirits going into such an important clash.

He said:“We’ve signed a lot of good players and we’re just starting to gel as a team.

“We’re confident. We’re now six games unbeaten so we don’t fear anybody.

“I don’t know too much about Clydebank – my mate Josh Watt plays for them so I’ll see if I can get information out of him.

“We are playing really well so we’ll just need to see what happens on the night and try to get a result.”

Gebbie was on the

scoresheet on Saturday as he headed in Lang’s second goal in the 2-0 victory over Larkhall Thistle.

That was Lang’s second win and clean sheet of the season in as many games which builds confidence in the side ahead of tonight’s match.

The former Queen’s Park player will ultimately be focussed on the semi-final first and foremost.

But another mouth-watering tie with rivals Rutherglen Glencairn is just around the corner.

Paul McColl’s Wee Gers play host to The Glens this Saturday having not lost to their near neighbours since 2014.

And even though Gebbie is aware of Glencairn’s poor results in recent weeks, he reckons form goes out of the window on derby day.

He said:“Glencairn are not having the best of times right now so we’ll go into it as favourites.

“But form means nothing in derby games and we’ll look to go out and get another win.

“We won 2-1 last time we played. They were better in the first half but we were the better team in the second.

“We got a goal before going down to 10 men and they battered us from then on.

“They equalised but we managed to get a winner somehow with 10 minutes to go.

“Saturday will be competitive. Everyone will be up for it because it’s a derby, everyone always want to play in these games.”
