School holiday dates for 2018/19
Parents in Rutherglen and Cambuslang can start planning after South Lanarkshire Council confirmed school holiday dates for the 2018/19 session.
The Reformer reported last month that views on a proposed calender were being sought.
That consultation has now ended with nearly 600 parents making their views known.
The majority agreed with the proposed terms, although over a third were unhappy with the new year to spring break term.
Groups representing teachers and other staff also agreed with the proposals.
Councillors on an education committee approved the holiday dates earlier this week.
Teachers will return on August 14, 2018, after the summer holidays, with the pupils going back on Thursday, August 16.
The calendar will then run as follows:
September weekend - close on Thursday, September 20; re-open on Tuesday, September 25.
October break - close on Friday, October 12; re-open on Monday, October 22.
In-service day - Monday, November 19.
Christmas - Close on Friday, December 21; re-open on Monday, January 7, 2019.
February break - close on Friday, February 8; re-open on Tuesday, February 12.
In-service day - Wednesday, February 13.
Spring break - close on Friday, March 29; re-open on Monday, April 15.
Easter - Close on Thursday, April 18; re-open on Tuesday, April 23.
Local holiday - closed on Monday, May 6. In-service day - Tuesday, May 7. Local holiday - close on Thursday, May 23; re-open on Tuesday, May 28.
Summer break - close on Friday, June 28, 2019.
Children are required by law to attend school for 190 days, with teachers working 195 days.
