High hopes for jobs boost

‘Prime location for office posts’

A four-storey office complex could kick start the process of bringing more than 12,000 jobs to Rutherglen.

The Red Tree Shawfield building, which is currently under constructi­on on Glasgow Road, is a £9 million investment set to open in August 2018,

It is expected to bring more than 250 positions to The Royal Burgh.

But, as part of the Magenta Business District, the building will also pave the way for other office blocks and jobs to be created on the one-million square foot site.

Ian Manson, chief executive of Clyde Gateway, celebrated the potential of the site at a topping out ceremony when the last beam was placed atop the Red Tree Shawfield structure.

“This building alone will have 250-300 people working in it and there’s room for up to 50 small businesses, so it’s designed to attract and accommodat­e the ambitious companies that need to grow,” he said.

“Once we have remediated the land and put the infrastruc­ture in place, this is a prime location for office jobs. It’s a cost effective place with lots of amenities around it which is on the banks of the river.

“There is room on this site alone for 12,000 jobs in these sorts of buildings.

“Clyde Gateway has already attracted 5,000 jobs into the area in the first nine years so there is every reason to believe that we can actually attract more.”

The office block, which is being constructe­d by Robertson Central, is the third to be developed by Clyde Gateway under the Red Tree brand. But it is the first involving a complete new-
