After the excitement of finals week, five more finals took place at Halfway and District throughout the last seven days.

On Wednesday night Helen Torrance and Fiona Firth won the Ladies Senior Pairs after beating Pat McWilliams and Flo Thomson.

And Sunday saw Helen Torrance beat Sandra Keary to win the Ladies Presidents Singles.

David Armstrong beat David Fergus to take victory in the Gents Presidents and Fiona Firth beat Maureen Lewis to win the Ladies Senior Singles.

John Smith and John Kerr triumphed over Martin and Jim Wilson in the LBA Pairs final.

A further three finals will take place this Sunday afternoon.

In the SBA Pairs John Smith and Charlie McIntyre will play William Anderson and Gordon Spiers.

In the Gents Senior Pairs John Murray and Jim Wilson will play Robert Thomson and Martin McIlree.

And Helen Torrance and Sandra Keary will play Sandra Hughes and Flo Thomson to contest the Ladies Presidents Pairs.

The last remaining final will take place on Sunday , September 17 when David Armstrong will play John Sheppard in the Gents VP’s final.

Last Saturday saw the Newton Cup rinks (sponsored by the Lynn and Bilsland families) take place at Halfway and District.

An impressive 48 players participat­ed and eventual winners were Derek Ashwood, John Gracie, Martin McIlree and David Armstrong who defeated Tam Ingram, Robert Thomson, Alan Barr and George Thomson in the final.

The Dalton Triples takes place this Saturday (sponsored by the Fergus family) with a 9.30am for 10am start. The Mixed Rinks takes place on Saturday, September 16 and the George Mair Triples (sponsored by Donachie CA) takes place on Sunday, September 24. The ladies section continue to meet every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon, and all will be made welcome.

Tomorrow, September 7 at 1pm, is the Ladies Friendship Cup competitio­n.

The gents seniors section is having their end of season party on Friday.

The ladies section hold their annual Two-Bowls Pairs competitio­n this Sunday, September 10 at 1pm.

Cambuslang would like to remind members of the gents finals weekend which takes place on September 16 and 17. Whitefield congratula­ted Joyce Kelly and Mary Smith who won the Ladies Balloted Pairs on Saturday.

Muriel Doyle and Agnes Fitzpatric­k were the runners-up.

Commiserat­ions went to the Ladies Top 10 team who were beaten by East Kilbride in last week’s final.

The gents and ladies aggregate competitio­ns finish as a competitiv­e event this week but will continue as a bounce format for the remainder of the season.

There are no competitio­ns next week. The club finals took place over two weekends, August 26 and 27 and September 2 and 3.

The latter date was overshadow­ed by torrential rain which was endured by the competitor­s.

However, whatever the weather conditions, the standard of play was excellent and entertaini­ng.

In the ladies section, the Nominated Pairs winners were Janet Moore and Agnes Moffat.

Runners-up were May Beggs and Margaret McCracken.

In the Balloted Pairs, Marie Wilson and Janet Moore took the honours to triumph over Lillian Wylie and Celia Campbell.

The new Vice-Presidents Cup champion is Marie Wilson who edged Margaret Anderson in the final, while Janet Moor won the Presidents Competitio­n against Margaret Anderson.

Shanice Goodwin took the Ladies Championsh­ip crown, while Belle Mitchell was the runner-up.

In the gents section, Robert Pye and Eddie Mellon won the Nominated Pairs competitio­n against Alec Hogg and Alex Wallace.

John Martin and John Radcliffe were crowned the Balloted Pairs champions and Alex Wallace and Graham Wilson came in as close runners-up.

In the Under 65’s final, delighted winner John Martin overcame a tricky tie with Jim Wallace and in the Over 65’s, Eddie Mellon defeated Alex Wallace.

David Senior won the Vice-Presidents trophy against Bill Logan and Alex Wallace was the winner of the Presidents Cup, beating Eddie Mellon.

Gordon Wallace was crowned Templeton gents champion after an exciting final match against Graham Mitchell.

The club congratula­ted all who made and won their respective finals.
