Lang bounce back after blip

-

Cambuslang Rangers manager Paul McColl praised his team for bouncing back from a“terrible”midweek blip.

The Lang exited the Sectional League Cup at the semi-final stage with a whimper but hit back to claim their third league victory in a row at home to local rivals Rutherglen Glencairn.

And the result pleased the Somervell Park boss even more after admitting some of his players needed to up their fitness.

“We played quite well, it was a good game actually and Glencairn looked decent,”he said.

“We controlled things in the first half and got our second after half-time.

“Then when they got a goal back, it was only natural for them to come out and try get another but we managed to hang on.

“The Glens have had a bit of trouble with injuries but I didn’t think they were that bad on Saturday, they caused us problems.

“It was good to get a result after Wednesday night. Clydebank got a soft penalty and after that we just went flat. We gave away bad goals and made too many mistakes. We were just terrible. Clydebank were good but it was never a 5-1 game.

“Some guys were getting tired and you can see that playing Saturday-Wednesday, Saturday-Wednesday, is taking its toll.

“They haven’t been training that much. I won’t name names but some of them need to get their fitness up.”

A trip to Cumbernauld is next up for The Lang. Andy Frame’s side got their first league points on the table with a 5-4 victory away to Darvel and McColl is looking forward to matching up against an old friend.

He commented: “They had a good result on Saturday away from home so they’ll be confident.

“They’ve got a good squad of players and I know Andy and his teams are always tough to beat. They’re very physical. We’ve had such a good start. Three wins from three, you would take that all day long. But we’re not getting carried away, we know it’s a long haul and there are some tough teams in this division.”
