A Rutherglen woman has denied causing the death of a primary school teacher after allegedly running her over with her car.

Elaine Bowles pleaded not guilty to driving, what is believed to be a Volvo, without due care and attention and striking Ann McCart, 64, on the body on December 13, 2014.

The 49-year-old of Cathkin Avenue, is claimed to have hit the former St Anthony’s Primary School teacher with her vehicle near her home on Greystone Avenue.

The impact of the collision is said to have knocked her to the ground and it is claimed Bowles drove over Ann’s body to her severe injury and death.

At the time of the tragic incident tributes poured in for the beloved Burnside woman.

Ann, who lived in Mill Street before moving to Greystone Avenue, had two sons, Michaeland Vincent and a daughter, Miriam. She had one grandson, Luke.

Miriam said her mum was a compassionate woman who “lived for her family” who also enjoyed learning Spanish.

Ann, whose husband Bill passed away in 1999 at the age of 56, was a teacher all her working life and started her career at St Anne’s Primary in Glasgow.

As testament to her charitable spirit, she undertook missionary work in Africa, teaching in Cameroon for two years.

After returning to Scotland she taught in St Anthony’s in Rutherglen.

She also taught in St Bartholomew’s in Coatbridge and her last job was at St Aidan’s Secondary School.

Bowles was due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on September 13 and pleaded not guilty to the charge against her.

She is expected to return to the court on October 24.
