Thought for the Week

-

I’m really looking forward to next year as my daughter is getting married in June 2018.

Things are starting to get really exciting; what with choosing the designs of the invitations, speaking to the minister, florist, photographer, choosing menus and guests and the highlight so far for me was going with Laura to choose her wedding dress. What an honour! One minute it was two years ago and all of a sudden it’s only nine months away.

The cost is obviously a factor in the planning and a wedding will take all you can give if you don’t budget but the rest is so exciting.

But imagine if horror of horrors, at the wedding celebration after the ceremony, the hotel ran out of food or even wine!

The embarrassment and shame for the parents would be unthinkable.

Yet this is what happened in Cana in Galilee where Jesus, his mother Mary and his disciples are present.

Jesus, taking compassion on the parents, performs his first miracle where he instructs the helpers to fill enormous water jars with water and after praying the water turns into wine.

The wine is in abundance but it is also of the very best quality.

I’m sure Jesus didn’t set out to do this but when people need help he is more than willing to step up to the mark.

Whether it’s feeding 5,000 people, calming the storm, healing the sick or raising the dead he reached out and helped.

We may not have the powers Jesus had but each and every one of us can help another human being, even in a small way, making a huge difference.

Wedding feast or offering a cup of tea, we can all do something for someone else.
