Rutherglen Reformer

App is Clyde guide

- Douglas Dickie

A free app has been launched that details the 65km Clyde Walkway, which runs through Cambuslang.

The popular walk takes people past some of Scotland’s best loved landmarks, including the Falls of Clyde at New Lanark and the Glasgow Science Centre.

Cambuslang Bridge is a key part of the route, acting as a link between two of the five stages highlighted.

The route also takes walkers on the north bank of the Clyde where the river runs through Rutherglen.

Simon Pilpel, access and development officer at South Lanarkshire Council, said: “The development of the app marks the next step in the promotion of the Clyde Walkway as one of Scotland’s great trails.

“It will provide users with enhanced and interactive information about the route, features of interest and other service information we hope they find helpful.”

The first section of the walk takes people from Glasgow City Centre on the north bank of the Clyde, past Cuningar Loop before crossing the river at Cambuslang Bridge.

The second stage follows the river as it goes past Cambuslang, all the way to Strathclyde Country Park.

As well as providing information on the sites walkers pass, the app will be able to chart their progress on the route.

The app is available by searching for ‘Clyde Walkway’ in the app store or Google Play store.

It was created on behalf of Glasgow City Council, North Lanarkshire Council, South Lanarkshire Council and Heritage Lottery Fund, supported by Clyde and Avon Valley Landscape Partnership (CAVLP) and Red Paint Media.
