StBart’s electpupilcouncil
While the rest of the country have probably had their fill of elections, pupils at a Castlemilk primary school were only too happy to put democracy into action one more time.
St Bartholomew’s held its annual pupil council election, with the campaign creating a real buzz in the classrooms.
Pupils went through a thorough election process. They had to nominate themselves as a candidate before they conducted a two-week campaign.
They made eye-catching posters and did a solo talk to convince classmates to vote for them.
One enterprising candidate even brought in cupcakes to entice the voters.
Voting day saw students use ballot papers, ballot booths and ballot boxes. A parent and former pupil acted as polling clerks.
Two candidates were chosen from each class with the pupil council being tasked with taking suggestions from classmates on how to improve the school.
Mrs Douglas, acting head teacher at St Bartholomew’s, said:“There has been a real buzz about the school over the last two weeks regarding the pupil council elections and it has been wonderful to see pupils engage so positively and creatively with the whole election process.”
