Eight is great for Third Lanark

-

Third Lanark AFC shot to the top of the Greater Glasgow AFL Division 2 with a convincing victory over North Kelvin.

After a disappointing exit in the Scottish Amateur Cup last week to Hurlford, the hosts bounced back in style.

Alan Semple made it six consecutive games with a goal when he curled a free-kick into the bottom right hand corner to open the scoring, his 13th goal of the season.

Lanark were 2-0 up shortly after when Marc Corlett was left with far too much room in the Kelvin box and finished without too much pressure.

The home side were playing great football throughout the half but wrong decisions in front of goal meant they did not extend their lead before the break.

However, Corlett got the third goal of the game from an acute angle shortly after the restart. A free kick near the right hand corner flag went straight into the back of the net, showcasing the player’s great technique.

An own goal effectively killed the game off midway through the second half as Scott Gemmell’s cross was met by an NK defender who stuck the ball past his own keeper.

Minutes later and Lanark took a 5-0 lead when Semple applied pressure on the North Kelvin defender on the left wing.

Grant Black then intercepted the ball before putting teammate Robert Sinclair through on goal and he finished well into the bottom right hand corner.

Neil White came on as a substitute to score with his second touch after Semple played him a great pass.

And White returned the favour when he cut back the ball for the striker to convert his second goal of the game.

The rout was completed after White used his pace to burst forward and cut the ball back for Josh Graham to finish.

The result was Third Lanark’s fourth consecutive victory in the league this season.
