Glowing report for Cherry Tree

Service once branded ‘weak’now‘very good’

- Douglas Dickie

A service that supports people with learning difficulties in Cambuslang has been praised by the Care Inspectorate – just three years after it was described as “weak”.

Cherry Tree Court on Westcoats Road was visited by the Care Inspectorate last month.

The findings of the visit have now been published, with inspectors saying they were satisfied with what they had seen.

At the time of the inspection, the service was supporting 10 people in one-bedroom flats with room for one more.

Both service users and their families praised the service when asked for their thoughts by the inspectors.

A report into the visit said: “We found that the quality of care and support in the service was very good. We saw that opportunities for residents to engage in their local community and develop their social networks were being promoted effectively and had led to a wider and more positive range of options for residents.

“This included accessing leisure activities in the local community, going on holidays with support staff for the first time in people’s lives and enjoying meals out in local restaurants.”

The inspection found a decrease in the number of incidents at the service.

During an unannounced visit by inspectors in January 2014, the service received three grades of two (weak) for care and support, staffing and management and leadership.

However, after viewing the facility again this time, both quality of care and support and quality of staffing, the only two aspects being assessed, were described as “very good”.
